Now that I feel more confident sewing swim for myself I think I’ve become obsessed. I got to test the Mama Roxy by Made for Mermaids and I’m just thrilled with how it came out. This is one of the easier swim patterns I’ve come across! The construction really is quite simple and great for a beginner of sewing swim for yourself. Here’s what I love. The shoulder straps are wide. So there is no pulling on my neck or shoulders. I often have that problem with thin straps or halters. If you’re looking for a top with great coverage – this is it. I find that if I get too skimpy of a top, nothing stays in place and the support is terrible. This is definitely the most comfortable top I have owned. I made mine with power net, under bust elastic, and built in cups. The ladies are not going anywhere. I also love that when I raise my arms the bottom of the top stays in place and doesn’t ride up and expose some under boobage.
As for the bottoms…I did the ruched bottoms with the tie. I’m not sure how I feel about high waisted bottoms on my figure. I have no butt at all and I feel like these don’t do me any favors in that area. However, they are really comfortable and nice for hiding the mom tummy. I do love the detail that the tie and ruching adds. While I’m trying to get used to the high waist, I think I’ll make some low rise bottoms to go with this top.
All of the edges are finished with 3/8″ swim elastic to make sure everything stays in place and the shoulder straps have elastic in them as well, which help keep them where they need to be. The whole suit is lined to ensure you don’t have any see through moments or fabric awkwardly stuck to you once it’s wet!
The fabric I used for this suit is from Joann Fabrics and it is labeled as a performance knit: Loungeletics Compression Performance Fabric 58″-Bright Coral
I would say even if you aren’t a fan of high rise, full coverage bottoms that you still need this pattern just for the top. It really is an amazing suit and I’m excited to have it in my pattern stash!
